TY Danjuma Foundation takes health care intervention to Plateau

The team leader of the General T.Y. Danjuma Foundation, Dr. Pokop W. Bubwatda, has said the foundation has targeted eight states across the country to be assisted in the health care sector, especially free eye treatment.

Bubwatda disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Jos, Plateau State on Sunday.

He said over N156,349,362 has been approved for free eye treatment for the people of Plateau State.
According to him, the Foundation will implement nine projects in Community Health Initiatives with a total grant of N100,826,102.

According to him: “Apart from the eye surgeries, mostly on cataracts, a total of 860 patients were diagnosed, with 553 given corrective eye glasses free by the foundation.

“It is expected that the fund will improve the quality of life and wellbeing of people living in three communities in Uhunmwonde LGA of Edo State through the drilling of three solar-powered boreholes; increase community awareness on sanitation and hygiene; build capacity for borehole; and establish community project committee to facilitate project implementation under its Care Vision Support Initiative.

“The grant will fund prevention of blindness, improve sight and enhance the wellbeing of 2,000 less privileged in rural areas through comprehensive integrated eye care intervention in Ehor LGA, Edo State.

“Also, the project will cater to Cataract surgery for six children under 18 years; provision of visual assessments for 300 secondary school children and 100 primary school children; cataract surgeries would be performed on 150 adult persons; 1000 adults with presbyopia and refractive errors would be provided with corrective glasses; and 40 Health Care workers would receive primary eye care training.”

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
