The drooling tears on the faces of patients in Taraba state necessitated by the high medical bills being charged by hospital, would soon give way to smiles as plans to storm the door steps of no fewer than eighty thousand patients have been mapped out by the wife of the state governor, Barrister Anna Darius Ishaku.
Making public her mapped out plans today in Jalingo, at the flagging off of her free medical treatment, her foundation which is known as Hope Afresh, she said would target 500 patients across the sixteen local government councils of the state.
She pleaded with the people to make use of the opportunity as the medical teams assigned with the responsibilities of addressing the health plights of the people, would work tirelessly round the clock to teat and treat the people of various ailments.
Believing that the programme would go a long way to solve the medical problems of the people especially those who are unable to access hospitals as a result of the high medical bills, all the needed drugs, she said would as well be made available to patients free of charge.
Elated that her Foundation ” Hope Afresh” has began to spread smiles on the faces of the people especially the downtrodden, the program as made known by her ” will target 5000 people across each of the 16 local government areas of the state.”
Her reason for indulging in such energy sapping venture, she said was necessitated by the persistent calls to her office by persons who could not afford the means of settling hospital bills for assistance in offsetting their medical bills.
She admonished the commissioner for Health, Dr. Innocent Vakkai, to as a matter of urgency look into the high bills presently being charge by hospitals in the state so as to enable the less privilege people access medical treatment.
The programme which is designed for the less privileged ones in the entire axis of the state, she is optimistic would not be hijacked by the privileged ones stating that ” we have mapped out plans to make sure that it is only those who cannot access treatments in hospitals due to high medical bills benefits from this programme.”
On his own part, the Head of Medical Team of the foundation, Dr. Dashe Dasogot said the foundation was equipped with enough drugs and relevant to treat as many persons,as would turn out for the programme.
Harping on the need for regular medical checks to avoid complications.the five day free programme, as stated by him would focus on hypertension, hepatitis, diabetes, HIV counseling and testing, screening for eye conditions including eye surgery to mention just a few.
Expressing optimism that patients would regain their sight during the five day programme, ad “a “lot of people with different kinds of illness” according to him “would be treated” stressing that ” I want to thank Her Excellency for coming out to assist the less privilege access medical service.”
The Commissioner for health, who was overwhelm by the programme, said relevant steps would be put in place to address the high medical bills presently being charged by hospitals in the state.
Certain that the programmers would touch the lives of the less privilege in the state, he admonished the people to take advantage of the opportunity, by making themselves available to the health medical teams brought together by the First Lady.
