Lack Of Airport Hinders Taraba Development -Ishaku

My major handicap now is lack of Airport to get people in and out of the state. I have friends who can fly in directly from Germany, Israel, and America with their private jets. But they prefer where the Airport is working so that they can land there, have a meeting with us and fly back

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has said the lack of a functional airport in the state puts a huge wedge on his developmental plans for the state.
“My major handicap now is lack of Airport to get people in and out of the state, I have friends who can fly in directly from Germany, Israel, and America with their private jets. But they prefer where the Airport is working so that they can land there, have a meeting with us and fly back”, he asserted.
He said this Tuesday while fielding questions from newsmen at an event marking his first 100 days in office at Abubakar Rimi Primary School, Takum, headquarters of Takum Local Government Area of the state.
Ishaku, who reiterated his administration’s desire to grow tourism in the state said he is interested in welcoming investors who would want to invest in any part of the state.
The governor, lamented infrastructural decay and under-development saying the non-existence of an operational airport in the state hampers his development plans.
He assured that before the end of year, the state government would do something feasible to surmount the challenge, pointing out that he was working assiduously to complete the Airport in Jalingo.
“By December, 2015, regular flight will commence at the Airport”, he said.
Governor Ishaku had during his inaugural speech on May 29, 2015, at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, pledged to complete projects started by Governor Danbaba Suntai.
The foundation of Jalingo Airport, The UNION learnt was laid in 2005 by former Governor Jolly Nyame but abandoned due to financial challenges.
The airport project advanced under Suntai but abandoned after his first tenure.
