Fresh Moves To Revive Gembu Airstrip

 




Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in collaboration with the Nigerian Methodological Agency and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria have inspected Gembu Airstrip in Sardauna Local Government Area, with the aims at commencing rehabilitation work on theAirstrip for flight to resume operation to Gembu, Taraba Truth and Fact report.

The founder and promoter of Mambilla Air, Aliyu Bello Malabu who led the technical delegation to Gembu Airstrip said the project said the aim of the inspection was to revive the abandoned Airstrip to resume flight operations especially now that the Mambilla hydro power project is underway.

Bello said Mambilla Air is an aircraft that was flying from Yola to Gembu in eighties, but stop operation for the past nine years.He added that the invitation of Nigeria Civil Aviation and other agencies was to access the airstrip as well as to know what do to improve the airspace to a modern standard.

Bello Malabu further disclosed that the outcome of the technical delegation after accessing the Airstrip said there is a lot of work to do because the Airstrip was abandoned for a long time where the space has grown with grasses and trees.

He however said the project was expected to be completed by the end of this year or early next year.

Also commenting, the chairman of Mambilla Air, Ibrahim Mamud said Mambilla Air was established in 1980’s which used to ferry passengers using Dona Aircraft from Yola to Gembu.


Ibrahim Mamud opined that the inspection visit was aimed at revamping the Gembu airspace in order to ease transportation especially at the time the Mambilla hydro power project is about to commence properly.


He explained that if the Gembu airspace start operation, it would help in saving time for spending about eight hours traveling from Jalingo to Gembu on road, adding that people who have serious project to handle would find it easy to travel fast.
