Election Tribunal: Appeal Court reserved judgment on Taraba State Speaker


The Court of Appeal  sitting in Yola,on Monday, has reserved judgment on appeal case filed by the speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly Hon. Peter Abel Diah challenging verdict of the Elections Petitions Tribunal that nullified his election victory .

Diah has approached the Appeal Court to set aside the judgement of the Elections Petitions Tribunal  which nullified his election victory under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The three man judges of Yola Appeal Court Hon. Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, Hon Justice U. Onyemenem, Hon Justice Saidu Tanko Hussaini, on Monday sitting called on the counsels to the speaker and APC, to deliberate and inform the court on the day they agree for judgement.

Speaking to reporters briefly after the court sitting the counsel to the PDP, Barrister Solo Akuma (SAN) said that he is confidence that judgement of appeal court will favour the embattled speaker.

"We are optimistic that Court of Appeal we set aside the verdict of Elections Petitions Tribunal. Mr. Speaker will reclaim back its mandate in full” He said.

In his view the speaker of Taraba state house of Assembly said that appeal court would upturn the verdict of Elections Petitions Tribunal calling on his political associates to remain calm.

“We have gone to court the last hope of common man we are confidence that right thing will be done at the end of the case”

“I am calling on my teaming supporters to remain calm because their mandate will not be robbed” He said.

It could be recalled that the Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Jalingo, had earlier ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to set aside the certificate of Return issued to the speaker on ground that election in eight out of the nine polling units, challenged by Mr Emmanuel Bongo, of APC candidate, were conducted against the provision of the 2010 Electoral Act stressing that the outcome of the eight polling units were null and void.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
