Flood Relief Fund: IGP Summons Taraba SSG, Chief Of Staff, Others

The inspector-general of police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has summoned the Taraba secretary to the state government, Mr. Anthony Jellaso; the chief of staff to Governor Darius Ishaku, Hon. Rebo Usman and others to appear at Force Headquarters, Abuja today.
Others on the list of those invited by the IGP include former SSG, Amb. Emmanuel Njiwah; former commissioner of women affairs, Mrs. Charity Green; former commissioner of education, Mr. Yakubu Agbaizo, and other former and serving top government official in the current administration.
The invitation, LEADERSHIP gathered, is not unconnected with investigation into allegations of misappropriation of the 2012 flood relief funds.
A top government official in Taraba State Government House, who confirmed the invitation to our correspondent, noted that the invitation was unnecessary since the EFCC and the ICPC had investigated the matter and found those invited not guilty.
The source who preferred not to be mentioned in print said, “This matter has already been trashed out by the EFCC and the ICPC before. In fact, they found nothing in it in their investigations which were carried out as far back as 2013. The group had sued the state government for lack of fair hearing, false accusation and defamation of character. The matter is still in court. It is strange that the IGP should now be inviting people for such a matter.
“What is more, everyone knows that all the people invited are in the current administration that is engaging the APC government in a legal tussle. They fear they might lose in court so they are out to ridicule the Darius cabinet members and his close political associates. This is also a way of getting back at a government they cannot sack by law.”
The flood relief fund crisis started during the tenure of former acting governor, Garba Umar, who sacked many members of Governor Danbaba Suntai’s cabinet in 2013 after they were allegedly found guilty by a House of Assembly’s investigative committee.
Umar too was eventually sacked by the Supreme Court with the proviso that all his actions in government as acting governor were not acknowledged by law.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
