May Day: Taraba workers demand N30,000 minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress, on Friday, appealed to the Taraba State Government to implement the new minimum wage without delay to boost the morale of workers in the State.

State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Peter Gambo, made the appeal during the May Day celebration in Jalingo.

Gambo, who commended Governor Darius Ishaku for being up to date in the payment of worker’s salaries at the state level, however, urged the government not to tamper with the salaries of local government workers.

This is even as he lauded the governor for staging a good fight against the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the State.

The NLC chairman urged workers in the state to adhere to the guidelines outlined by the state COVID-19 taskforce to avoid the spread of the virus.

In a remark, Comrade Victor Olatunde, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the State appealed to the government to resume disbursement of N100 million to state pension office to address the issue of pension and gratuity owed to retired civil servants in the state.

Olatunde said the timely payment of pension and gratuity to retired civil servants would enhance the quality of life of the retired citizens in the state.

The TUC leader in the state also urged the government to fully implement the pending national minimum wage for workers in the state.

Taraba State University Joins ASUU Ultimatum to 21 Universities Over 2025 Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, has joined 20 other state-owned universities placed on a 14-day ultimatum over the alleged non-implementation of key provisions of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement. Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
