The Danji SS Campaign Council has condemned the reported attack on a campaign vehicle belonging to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Jalingo, Yorro and Zing Federal Constituency, Hon. Innocent Umar Jabayang, calling for an investigation into the incident.
In a press release signed by its spokesperson, Mr Emmanuel Umaru, the campaign council said the vehicle, with registration number GBB-339AA, was damaged, with its windscreens smashed, bodywork badly affected and campaign materials destroyed.
The council described the incident as an attack on democracy and the right of citizens to make political choices freely, insisting that violence and intimidation should have no place in the electoral process.
It warned against the introduction of political thuggery into Jalingo, Yorro and Zing, noting that the communities had long been associated with peace, brotherhood and political tolerance.
The council also reaffirmed the commitment of its principal, Hon. Danjuma Usman Shiddi, to peaceful political engagement, describing his campaign as one built on service, development and respect for human dignity.
According to the statement, the campaign would not be intimidated or resort to retaliation, but would respond by intensifying voter mobilisation and engagement.
The council called on the Taraba State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
It also urged the Department of State Services (DSS), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other electoral stakeholders to take steps to prevent further incidents of political violence.
Meanwhile, the council appealed to supporters of Jabayang and APGA to remain calm, law-abiding and peaceful, warning them against taking actions that could escalate tensions.
While expressing solidarity with members of its campaign team affected by the incident, the council said it was grateful that no life was lost.
The statement concluded with a renewed condemnation of the attack and a call for justice, stressing that political differences should be resolved through peaceful democratic processes rather than violence.
