Taraba Bans Felling Of Trees

The Taraba State government has banned the felling of trees due to increasing illegal logging across the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Alhaji Usman Madu, disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust in Jalingo yesterday.
He said the state government came up with the decision because of the high level destruction of the forest resources and it’s consequences on government efforts towards afforestation.
He disclosed that committees had been set up and charged with the responsibility of protecting forests reserves across the state.
Madu added that more than 100 offenders had been arrested and about 80 saw machines were seized.
He disclosed that a fine of N400,000 would be enforced on any truck caught conveying timber out of the state.
According to the Permanent Secretary, a new licensing policy on timber would be introduced where three seedlings would be planted in place of any tree cut down.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
