Taraba Polytechnic running courses without accreditation — Cttee

The 21 year-old Taraba State Polytechnic has been running courses without accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education, the chairman, Joint Action Committee of Tertiary Institutions said yesterday in Jalingo.
Comrade AbduKarim Bello said at a news conference that the College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo had also not admitted students for the past 10 years due to non accreditation of its courses and facilities by the Nursing Council of Nigeria.
He said this had created a serious shortage of nurses and midwives in government hospitals across the state while graduates of the polytechnic are facing problems of proper placement in higher institutions and  employment outside the state.
“Though the polytechnic was established to train middle level workers in the state, government should ensure the accreditation of all courses and facilities in order add value and make the certificates awarded recognised nationwide”, he said.
The committee chairman also urged the state government to ensure that before relocating the institution from its present site, adequate arrangements must be made for buildings and other facilities to meet accreditation requirements.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
