NIRSAL, Supernova to engage over 100 youth in smart farming to check restiveness

As part of measures to check youth restiveness, the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL),in collaboration with an entrepreneurship firm, Supernova Global Investment Company is to engage over 100 Taraba youth in smart farm project.

The Chief Executive Officer of Supernova Global Investment Company, Barr. Sani Marke disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.

Marke said they have acquired 118 hectares of land in Donada, Lau local government area of the state for the smart farm which will help check poverty, unemployment and criminality.

According to him the smart farm project which will target dry season rice farming with NIRSAL providing adequate support will soon take off in the state.
He explained that the initiative was to take youth out of the streets, check criminality and boost the economy of the state.

“Our target is youth and women and we are going to engage at least 100 youth this year who will be taught the basic rudiments of modern rice farming.

“The successful trainees will be supported to set up their farms next year under our supervision to ensure that our human capital investment is not wasted.

“NIRSAL will provide the inputs and professional support while we in Supernova will ensure successful implementation of the project and liaise with off takers to buy the products upon harvest,” he said.

Marke also noted that arrangement have been concluded with the Taraba State Micro-finance bank to provide loan facilities to the trainees to enable them establish successful Agro businesses after the training.

He added that his firm was also perfecting plans to begin the training of women and youths on various skills such as soap making, metal fabrication, event management among others, all geared at ensuring self reliance for women and youths.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
