Police Arrested 35 People Over Jalingo Violent Clash

The Taraba State Police Command on Thursday said they have arrested 35 suspects in connection with the recent violent clash involving suspected political youth groups in Jalingo, the state capital.

State Police Public Relations officer ASP David Misal told our correspondent that the command responded to a distress call when suspected political thugs engaged in a violent clash around the Jalingo market area which resulted in the burning down of shops.

According to him, on receipt of the distress call, the Commissioner Police Taraba State Command, Mr. David Akinremi gave a directive for the deployment of operatives of the command to quell the uprising.

“But before the arrival of the police, a shop had already been burned down.

“From the information we gathered, one of the rival political thugs was killed the previous day which led to the uprising.

“We will not relent in our efforts to rid the state of all criminal elements.

“We, therefore, warn criminals and those who would want to cause trouble especially as the elections draw near to steer clear of Taraba.

“I want to use this opportunity to assure residents of Taraba of their safety and urge them to cooperate with the police by giving useful information that will help in curbing the excesses of bandits and criminals.”

The PPRO said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
