Taraba partners NSHIP on health care Published

The Taraba State Government and the Nigeria State Health Investment Project on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to boost primary health care delivery in the state.

Signing the MoU in Jalingo, the state capital, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Innocent Vakkai, said the MoU was to scale up more hospitals in the NSHIP programme.

Vakkai said, “In the time past, primary health care facilities in the state used to be in bad shape and could hardly offer services, but the NSHIP has greatly improved both health care delivery and infrastructure development of some of our PHC facilities.

“The programme is aimed at strengthening health care development at the local level and I want to call on the beneficiaries to take the programme seriously.”

He said Taraba is now 13 out of the 36 states in terms of improved PHC delivery going by arecent assessment.

He commended Governor Darius Ishaku for his prompt payment of counterpart funds for the project, adding that NSHIP had revitalised health care delivery in the state.

In his remarks, the Programme Coordinator, Mr. Ubanus Ezekiel, said the programme started with a pilot scheme at Ardo Kola and later scaled up to the Takum and Jalingo LGAs.

He noted that with local government added to the programme, more people in the rural areas would have access to health care services.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
