Fulani/Kona Conflict: Gov. Ishaku Meets with the Vice President; Promises to Set-up Committee

The Taraba state Governor, Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku led a delegation of traditional rulers to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to deliberate on the conflict between the Fulani and Kona in Jalingo and Ardo Kola Local Government Areas of the state.

The governor at the meeting has promised to set up a committee that will look into the cause of the attacks with the hope that it will go a long way in healing the wounds caused by the conflict and enable the people with the help of the Federal Government to return to their homes from where they were displaced and to be assisted to resume working for their means of livelihood through the necessary effective and permanent security presence.
Bishop Ignatius Kaigama in his statement appreciated the kindness of the Vice President in granting the request for such a dialogue aimed at a permanent reconciliation and peace.
He prayed that the conflict which was rooted in unfortunate historical factors which goes back to over one century will be brought to an end with very sincere dialogue and mutual respect between the Fulani and the Jukun-Kona.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
