Taraba govt laments non compliance to safety rules in state

The Taraba State government has confirmed the result released by the National Center for Disease Control NCDC on two new active cases of COVID-19 in the state.

The commissioner for health, Dr. Innocent Vakai, who is also chairman Taraba state technical committee on COVID-19 also announced the cases on Tuesday to journalists in Jalingo.

Vakai said the two patients have already been quarantined at the isolation centers of the federal medical center (FMC) and the specialist hospital Jalingo.

Vakai while emphasising the Taraba state government’s readiness to ensure safety of the citizens from the pandemic, the commissioner quoted the technical committee as blaming the citizens for not adhering to the safety measures on COVID-19.

According to him, the technical committee observed that public activities of over (20) persons like, football matches and wedding ceremonies were being held in different parts of the state without the use of facemasks.

He announced that the state lockdown order is still in force, noting that the interstate travel ban lifted by the federal government was not the decision of the Taraba State government as it remains prohibited in the state.

He advised citizens to adhere to safety measures and the state laid down rules to help manage the situation.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
