Taraba NLC Chairman Did Not Die of Covid-19 – Committee Chairman

Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Innocent Vakkai cleared the air on the news making rounds regarding the cause of death of late Comrade Peter Gambo.

The Taraba state Commissioner for Health and Chairman of the Covid-19 Committee, Dr. Innocent Vakkai has confirmed the death of state Chairman Nigerian of Labour Congress (NLC), comrade Peter Gambo of some health issues that are confidential.

He stated this to newsmen in Jalingo, the state capital and debunked the earlier speculations that the NLC Chairman died of Covid-19 was not true.

The Commissioner noted that the NLC Chairman was not admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo as earlier reported, rather he was admitted at the State Specialist Hospital.

He said that the late Gambo had been on admission at the Specialist Hospital Jalingo and was tested for COVID-19 but his result came out as negative.

He disclosed that of the two active cases that were announced last week, the one at Specialist Hospital Jalingo has been discharged while the other is still in an isolation centre at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo.

Dr. Innocent Vakkai expressed worry over the increasing number of the pandemic, noting that people must adhere to the social distance protocol.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
