Senator Bwacha lament imminent bandit attack in Taraba


Senator Emmanuel Bwacha representing Taraba South Senatorial district has cried out over the imminent banditry attacks on Jalingo, Taraba State capital and its surroundings.
He called on communities to wake up to complement the efforts of security agencies saying that security personnel have been overstretched.
The lawmaker maintained that communities should form themselves into security groups, adding that the “Amotekun” was the best way to deal with insecurity in Nigeria now.
“The matter that I stand before my colleagues is topical and unique in a way.
“Officials in the Federal Ministry of Works went to my Senatorial district and I advised them to go with security men.
“As they were going about they ran into a huge crowd of bandits with bands on their head who rode on motorcycles armed with AK47 rifles.
“Why am saying this Mr. President, is because insecurity is a topical challenge that we know. On whether the insurgents are everywhere now is a matter that is known to the public.
“Upon sighting the security agents, they ran away and two of those bandits who were caught unaware abandoned their machines because they were not prepared to run. The soldiers exchanged gunfire with them and took their machines into their vehicles.
“Now this has heightened fears among citizens of Taraba and its environs. It has given credence to speculations in the social media that they have planned an attack on communities around Yoro and Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State in a commando style like it happened in Garkida.
“Why this explanation is necessary is because communities must wake up and complement the role of the military.
“At this point, I must also commend the people and government of Niger State for the role they play a few days ago. I want to watch communities wake up with the same style of Amotekun and protect themselves because our Military are over stretched.
“They must form a new strategies to confront these people.
Senate President, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan called for patience, noting that the Senate Committee on Security was working hard for the upper chamber to take a decision.
“The Committee on Security will soon finish their work before we know what to do further. Of course, there is no day that passed without a security breach in one way or the order.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
