Taraba: Transmit power to your deputy or resign, Arewa youths tell Ishaku

Arewa Youth Assembly, in conjunction with other Civil Society Organisations, have called on Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State to transmit power to his deputy as stipulated by the constitution, following his long absence from the state.

In a statement signed on Tuesday by the Publicity Secretary of the youth assembly, Bar. Ahmed Abdulmalik said the call became necessary as the governor had been out of his duty post for about 80 days.

Mr Abdulmalik lamented that the governor’s absence is affecting the day-to-day running of the state, saying that top government officials always had to leave their duty post to Abuja to see the governor. According to him, the governor recently gave out about 90 appointments from Abuja. The youth, therefore, warned that if the governor refused to do so, they would be left with no option than to hold a peaceful protest from Unity Fountain, Abuja to National Assembly and to Presidential Villa, “to state our stand on this matter and register our grievances for them to act”.

“We will also hold another peaceful protest in Jalingo in front of the Taraba House of Assembly to compel them to do their duty as one arm of government. Not as puppet to the state governor,” the group warned.

“We are calling on Nigeria Governors Forum, Northern Governors Forum, Northern Elders Forum, Arewa Consultative Forum, NANS, NYCN, Activists, Youth Organisations, all other notable Northern groups, well-meaning Nigerians, Democracy Crusaders, and media among others to come out and join us in the fight in keeping and preserving our nascent democracy.”

Taraba State University Joins ASUU Ultimatum to 21 Universities Over 2025 Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, has joined 20 other state-owned universities placed on a 14-day ultimatum over the alleged non-implementation of key provisions of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement. Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
