Human rights activist urges Darius to pay WAEC, NECO fees



A Jalingo-based human rights activist, Barrister Bilyamunu Maihanci, has appealed to Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku to pay WAEC and NECO examination fees for Taraba students. He made the appeal during an interview with North East Trust in Jalingo. 

 He said many students in their final year in secondary schools were unable to pay for WAEC and NECO examinations because of hard economic situation. 

 According to him such students may end up not being able to proceed to higher institutions. “In the spirit of Christmas Governor Darius should  make WAEC and NECO examination free in the state. This will enable all students to sit for their examinations and that  will drastically reduce crime rate among youths in the state,” Barrister Bilyamunu said.

 He commended the governor’s effort in restoring lasting peace in the state and urged him to lift the curfew placed on Jalingo metropolis since peace and normalcy has returned to the metropolis and its environ. “It gladdens my heart by the strides your administration is making towards bringing a lasting solution for peace to return to Taraba,” he added. He said, however, there was the  need for the state government to improve on the standard of secondary schools in the state as many of them lacked basic instructional materials “There is the need for Taraba state government to pick  one school in each LGA and make it a model to make learning more conducive” he  said.

Kefas Bans Livestock Rearing in Residential Areas of Jalingo, Imposes ₦50,000 Fine

The Taraba State Government has banned the rearing of animals in residential areas and other parts of Jalingo, the state capital, as part of efforts to tackle environmental nuisance, safeguard public health, and maintain a cleaner and more orderly city.
