Governor Ishaku Returns To Taraba, Swears In 20 Commissioners

The supporters of Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku, who had lined-up along the roads to welcome him from Abuja since after the judgement of the State’s Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal penultimate Saturday.

Ishaku was received by his wife, Mrs Anna Darius Ishaku, government officials and other well-wishers at about midday on Saturday. The governor and entourage proceeded to the Jolly Nyame Sports Complex in Jalingo for the swearing-in of 20 commissioners as members of the State Executive Council.

The event is coming barely one week after the Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja had ruled that Senator Aisha Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the runner-up in the April 2015 governorship election in Taraba State, is the duly elected governor because Ishaku did not emerge from a properly conducted primary election.

The judgment has been greeted with mixed reactions with criticisms from laymen and experts at various levels who opined that it was a monumental flaw in judicial practice. The crowd of supporters reaffirmed their mandate for Ishaku through placards with various inscriptions demonstrating their dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s verdict.

In his address, the governor assured the people that he is overwhelmed with their show of solidarity, adding that he will defend the mandate given to him. Ishaku thereafter swore in 20 newly appointed commissioners that will form the pioneer cabinet of his administration.

The appointees took their Oaths of Office and Oaths of Allegiance administered by the Chief Judge of the state, represented by Justice Nehemiah Andetur in the gymnasium hall of the Jolly Nyame Sports Complex.

The governor urged the new appointees to prepare their minds and key into the rescue mission of the state in order to meet the urgent developmental needs of the state. The occasion was also used for the official launch of the “Rescue Taraba Project”, thus setting the stage for the government of Governor Ishaku and his deputy, Mr. Haruna Manu to hit the ground running.

The booklet is a compendium of his governing stratagem which contains the way forward for his administration. The governor presented the booklet as a guide for his commissioners as it captures the purpose, goal and the objectives of the administration.

He further noted that the rescue mission primarily covers three areas; the economy, social and the cross-cutting sectors.

This, he said shall crystallise in the provision of basic social amenities.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers.
