Leave Garba Umar out of your self-inflicted troubles – Taraba group tells Ishaku, Rebo

The UTCiaya Amana Political Movement has describe former Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar UTC as the major victim of the political robbery perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in ”its alleged sham primary election”, while also denying its participation at the purported primary where Dairus Ishaku was selected as the party’s candidate.
Coordinator of the movement, Jinadu Yawe in a statement said PDP members in Taraba state were clearly and brazenly denied their right to select candidates of their choice for the election.
The statement said embattled Governor, Darius and his followers were clearly aware that they could not win the primaries against Garba Umar UTC on home soil, “so in the process of stealing the mandate committed nauseating blunders that has returned to haunt them,” the statement said.
It further said that if primaries were held anywhere without the knowledge of relevant authorities and lawful delegates, it should be declared unconstitutional, null and void.
“Claiming that any of the PDP governorship aspirants participated in the fraud called primary election held in Abuja is a wicked and barefaced lie aimed at covering the disgraceful subversion of both the PDP constitution and the Electoral Act just to willfully hand over the ticked to Darius Ishaku.
“It was at the contrived primaries that Alhaji Umar was awarded the Senatorial ticket in absentia just to assuage his teeming supporters. It is the same rejected ticket that former Acting Governor Abubakar Sani Danladi seized, even without purchasing the form and going through the screening process. It is utterly preposterous and disheartening for Rebo Usman to shamelessly lie that Alhaji Umar UTC or anyone else besides their anointed candidates took part in the primaries just to prevent the inevitability of sacking Governor Ishaku on account of his improper and illegal nomination as the PDP candidate.
“The ruling of the Election Tribunal is very explicit and unambiguous; there was no PDP primaries in Taraba, simple,” the statement affirmed.
It, however, advised that those aggrieved by the tribunal’s judgment should point accusing fingers at the Victor Bala-led PDP EXCO and their fellow cabals for the poor handling of the election of Darius, instead of unnecessarily whipping religious and ethnic sentiments.
Full press statement below:
Perhaps, the Taraba State Chief of Staff, Mr Rebo Usman has not read the damning and self-indicting post-election report of the Peoples Democratic Party on the 2015 national elections. If he did he, would not have ridiculed and displayed his ignorance on national television in a vain, pitiable and futile effort to justify the kangaroo primaries conducted in Abuja which purportedly produced Architect Darius Ishaku as the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Taraba State.
In the said report, Taraba State featured prominently as a case point of states where the PDP willfully threw away its chances by brazenly seizing its tickets from popular candidates only to impose unpopular candidates on the electorates. In a desperate, infamous and shameful effort to produce Darius as the sole candidate of the party, the Taraba State chapter of PDP in active connivance with some retrogressive elements at the national secretariat broke every known rule or guideline designed to produce a credible candidate for the party because of lack of confidence in the process. Contrary to the visibly angry and empty rantings of Mr Rebo Usman, the cabal which was desperate to impose Darius Ishaku on the Taraba electorate knew that he was unpopular, unelectable and unknown to the electorate and therefore had to devise any dubious and devious means of producing him at all cost. Now this dubious day light robbery is coming back to haunt the so-called cabals.
Speaking on both Channels and AIT breakfast programmes in the wake of the sacking of Governor Darius Ishaku by the governorship election tribunal, Chief of Staff Rebo Usman is claiming that Darius was validly nominated as PDP candidate at the primaries election which took place in Abuja. In a presentation laced by threats, intimidation and insult on the Judiciary, Rebo Usman claimed that the primaries was moved to Abuja because of ‘tension’ occasioned by insecurity in the state. He claimed that Alhaji Garba Umar UTC, former Acting Governor and the victim of the political robbery in Taraba State, also took part in the primaries. This to say the least is a wicked and barefaced lie aimed at covering the disgraceful subversion of both the PDP constitution and the Electoral Act just to willfully hand over the ticked to Darius Ishaku. The ruling of the Election Tribunal is very explicit and unambiguous; there was no PDP primaries in Taraba, simple. If primaries were held anywhere without the knowledge of relevant authorities and lawful delegates, the primaries should appropriately be declared as unconstitutional, null and void. You can’t built something on nothing. All the noise about judicial theft or bias is nothing but another irritating self ridicule and open display of ignorance.
For the avoidance of doubts ward congresses for the election of delegates were earlier held throughout the state without any single incident of violence. The congresses were supervised by officials from the national secretariat who submitted their report clearly indicating that the election was peaceful and credible. However, for no disclosed reason the Victor Bala led PDP executive council rejected the duly elected delegates and resorted to legal action to stop them. After wasting precious time, an Abuja High Court affirmed the delegates as validly elected as against the shameless lie by Remo Usman that the party was directed to find an amicable settlement on the issue. Throwing caution to the winds the cabals resorted to its last dastardly and infamous action of unilaterally shifting the primaries to Abuja to the disappointment and consternation of all concerned. The duly elected delegates, although not formally notified rushed to Abuja to lawfully participate in the primaries, only to be locked out of Wadata House, venue of the Kangaroo exercise. All the five hundred legally elected delegates were left to sleep out in the Abuja cold dry weather without water and food, while less than one hundred usurpers in the name of statutory delegates were drafted to nominate 24 State House of Assembly, six House of Representatives, three Senatorial and the governorship candidates for Taraba State. Rebo is talking of exposing our country to shame in the comity of nations, what greater shame, humiliation and degradation can be more than subjecting your fellow citizens to the excruciating and harrowing experience of sleeping outside the PDP national secretariat just because you suspect that they may not vote for your preferred candidate? Why were the delegates dropped despite a court judgment affirming their election? Was this not a willful and arrogant disobedience or contempt of the court? Who among the aggrieved members and the elected delegates was contacted for negotiation to use only statutory delegates(government political appointees) for the primaries? How can less than one hundred people justifiably nominate all elective candidates for about three million Tarabans contrary to the electoral act which made provision for over seven hundred delegates? The PDP members were clearly and brazenly denied their right to select candidates of their choice. If the Architect Darius is so popular as Rebo Usman wants us to believe, why was he afraid to face just five hundred delegates(Tarabans) from across the state?
The other aspirants to various political offices, including the three governorship candidates, Alhaji Garba Umar, Chief David Kente and Ambassador Musa John were not even notified of the change of venue for the primaries. It is instructive to note that in the process of the hassle and bickering over the political rights of the delegates to execute their constitutional mandate, the cabals wasted precious time only to conduct the primaries five days late which is one of the major issues in the judgment against Darius. As far as we are concerned, the issue of the illegality of the PDP primaries had been settled since early this year when the Deputy Director of publicity at INEC, Mr Nick Dazang told the Hausa Service of a foreign electronic media that the Taraba primaries can only stand as long as they are not challenged in court. In other words INEC did not recognize the so called Abuja primaries. If it was not nemesis, how could the cabals fail to remember to drive to INEC headquarters in less than twenty minutes within Abuja to bring an INEC official to Wadata House. These are the clues thieves usually leave behind in a hurry to get away from crime scenes. God, in his infinite mercy has done justice to Umar UTC for this day light robbery.
It was at the contrived primaries that Alhaji Umar was awarded the Senatorial ticket in absentia just to assuage his teeming supporters. It is the same rejected ticket that former Acting Governor, Abubakar Sani Danladi seized, even without purchasing the form and going through the screening process. It is utterly preposterous and disheartening for Rebo Usman to shamelessly lie on international electronic media that Alhaji Umar UTC or anyone else besides their anointed candidates took part in the primaries just to prevent the inevitability of sacking Governor Ishaku on account of his improper and illegal nomination as the PDP candidate. In the said program Rebo threatened the entire state with what he called ‘political insurgency’ , claiming that Darius received ‘overwhelming ‘ votes to govern the state. If Darius was so popular, why was he afraid of conducting the primaries in the state he sought to govern only to engage in false and spurious claim and blackmail over an imaginary ‘tension’? Who was he afraid of? Darius and his cohorts were clearly aware that they could not win the primaries against Garba Umar UTC on home soil and so in the process of stealing the mandate committed these nauseating blunders that has returned to haunt them. Now they are not only threatening and moralizing issues, but have run to the court of ‘public opinion ‘ to seek for sympathy. Architect Darius was elected with only 310,805 votes, less than eighty thousand votes above his APC main contender, Senator Aisha Alhassan. If the controversial votes in Wukari, Donga, Takum, Kurmi and Sardauna are removed, where is the ‘overwhelming ‘ votes being orchestrated by Rebo Usman? Again, if the Election Tribunal had accepted the card reader report it would have clearly exposed the fallacy of the so called ‘overwhelming ‘ victory of Darius. For all we know Darius did not win any election in Taraba State. How can political liabilities like Rebo and fellow travelers market an unknown candidate to victory? There was no doubt that with Darius, PDP had already lost the elections even before the votes were cast. This would not have happened if Umar UTC was the PDP candidate. What is happening to the PDP is the result of their injustice, lack of respect for members and willful confiscation of lawful mandates from popular winners in favour of strange and unpopular people. Those aggrieved by the travails should point accusing fingers at the Victor Bala-led PDP EXCO and their fellow cabals for the poor handling of the election of Darius, instead of unnecessarily whipping religious and ethnic sentiments. Nobody is stealing any ‘mandate’, the out-going governor’s handlers did a bad job and collected his money. A case of one chance. The painful truth is that PDP did not hold primaries in accordance with both its constitution and the electoral act. The conduct of primaries is constitutional and not at the whims of some disgruntled elements to lock themselves in a room and produce a list in the name of ‘internal party affair’. Besides if you enter an athletic race you will be interested to know if your opponent is on drugs because his performance may impact on your participation.
