I’m not bothered about my sacking – Taraba governor

The Governor of Taraba State, Mr. Dairus Ishaku, said he wasnot bothered with his removal from office by the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.
His election was voided last Saturday by the election tribunal.
The tribunal ordered that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Aisha Al-Hassan, be inaugurated as the governor.
But the governor said he was not disturbed by the tribunal’s judgment.
Ishaku, who was at the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, on Tuesday, where he briefed the party’s national leadership on the development, said he was confident that the judgment would be upturned at the Court of Appeal.
He said, “I am not shaking; God is on His throne. I will defend the mandate Taraba people gave to me. I have confidence in the judiciary but there is corruption in the judiciary just like in every profession, there are bad eggs.
“There are good drivers and there are bad drivers. It is unfortunate that this driver (of the tribunal) was a bad driver. That judgment was an accidental discharge.”
The governor expressed surprise that a tribunal, which held that he won the election could delve into a pre-election matter.
He said the judgment was a rude shock to the people of Taraba and he advised President Muhammadu Buhari to start his anti-corruption fight from tribunal judges if he wants to succeed in his war against corruption.
The governor told the party leadership that normalcy has returned to Wukari area of the state where there was violence, and charged the political class to ensure safety of lives of their supporters.
PDP’s acting National Chairman, Uche Secondus, who received the governor, said the PDP followed the dictates of the Electoral Act and the PDP guidelines in the submission of the names of the governor and his deputy to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said this was the reason why the names were not rejected.
Secondus said that he was shocked at the reasons given for the nullification of the election, but added that he was sure that the law would take its course.
The acting national chairman accused the Federal Government of using security agencies to write tribunal judgments.
He said, “There is a grand plan to takeover PDP states. The tribunal judgment is a conspiracy. We believe in the judiciary. We believe that justice will be done. We believe that nobody will coerce the judiciary.
“The President should know there will be no development without peace. The president needs peace to drive his change. There is tension everywhere. The government should engage the South-East region, where people are protesting, in a discussion but not to coerce or arrest them.
“There is crisis in the land. Government should dialogue with the people.”
He warned that the PDP would no longer accept an alleged situation where the Federal Government would collude with security agencies to rob the PDP some of its states at the tribunals.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers.
