PDP elders in Taraba reject tribunal ruling, back Gov. Ishaku

Top PDP elders in  Taraba state have rejected the judgement of the state governorship election petition tribunal which annulled the election of Governor Darius Ishaku, declaring that the ruling “cannot stand the test of further judicial inquest.”
Speaking to newsmen yesterday, after a meeting in Abuja, leaders of the various political divides in the state said the judgement was capable of throwing the already volatile state into “an unwarranted chaos.”
A former Nigeria’s envoy to Trinidad and Tobago, Ambassador Musa John, faulted the ruling, saying that as a former PDP governorship aspirant, he was aware that the party’s primaries held in Abuja, which he actively participated in, when the security situation in Jalingo, the state capital, could not be guaranteed for such event.
According to him, since all the other aspirants that participated in the Abuja primaries did not object to the emergence of Arc. Ishaku, he wondered why the tribunal took the decision even when Sen.
Aisha was not a candidate in the PDP primaries.

Also, the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate in the said election, Alhaji Kabiru Dodo, said the judgement “does not augur well for the peaceful atmosphere existing in the state.”
Similarly, a former Nigerian Ambassador to Cameroon, Mr. Emmanuel Njuwa, wondered what such an anti-people judgement was set to achieve even when INEC had called for re-run in some local governments and wards after the main election was decided in his favour.
He said the scale of justice in this matter clearly tilts in favour of the PDP and Ishaku, adding that the people should remain calm and await the outcome of the appeal filed by the governor.
Commenting, the state PDP chairman, Mr. Victor Kona, said it was an irony for the tribunal to accept that the election was free and fair “only to turn round to use the PDP primary election to overturn the entire exercise, a premise he said cannot withstand an appeal.”
He, therefore, enjoined the people of the state to be law-abiding and to continue to support the governor, saying “victory is within sight.”

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management.
