Taraba Muslims Call For End To Crises In Wukari

The Wukari Federation of Muslim Ummah has appealed to the Federal Government to take urgent step to put an end to incessant crises in Wukari area of Taraba State in which scores of people have lost their lives and properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed.

Briefing journalists in Abuja on yesterday, the president, Wukari Federation of Muslim Ummah, Malam Saany Sule Sale said the latest in the crises occurred on Sunday November 8, 2015 when some unknown gunmen stormed the Muslim community in Wukari and other surrounding villages in Gindin Dorowa, Jibu and Chinkai and in the wake of attack some residents were sent to their untimely graves.

Sale said the timely intervention of the military on the day “saved the Muslim population of the town from total annihilation limiting their casualty figure to eight person, 20 seriously wounded and over 400 commercial buildings belonging to Muslims totally destroyed.”

Sale said the attack which started in 2013 has resulted in the death of 70 Muslims with more than 4000 commercial and residential buildings destroyed. He added the resultant effect is the scattering of people to states like Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa and others for safety.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
