Senator advocates summit on insecurity in Taraba

The senator representing Taraba Central in the National Assembly, Sen. Yusuf Abubakar, has advocated the hosting of a security summit in Taraba state to address worsening insecurity in the state.

Sen. Abubakar made the call on Tuesday while speaking with reporters in Jalingo. He described the increasing cases of kidnapping, abduction and other violent crimes in the state as worrisome.

Taraba and other states in Nigeria’s north east have been at the receiving end of a decade-long insurgency that has claimed 38,000 lives and displacred millions.

Sen. Abubakar noted that insecurity poses serious threats the economy and people of the state, saying that every citizen should rise up to tackle various problems plaguing the state.

He also advised the Taraba state House of Assembly to deliberate on the insecurity problem in the state and come out with resolutions that would bring solutions.

According to him, the National Assembly on its part is already offering ideas that would help in tackling insecurity nationwide.

“The insecurity situation in Taraba state and the entire country is worrisome to every member of the National Assembly and steps are being taken to tackle the problem.

“I will advise members of the Taraba state House of Assembly to devote their time and debate the situation extensively with a view to passing resolutions that can suggest possible solutions to the problem,’’ Sen. Abubakar said.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
