Buhari, north mourn as first-class traditional ruler dies

President Muhammadu Buhari, late Thursday, August 1, joined in mourning the death of a first-class monarch in the north, Danjuma Stephen Bayonga, the Gara Donna, Taraba state.

Banyonga reportedly died in a hospital in Abuja and the incident was confirmed by the chairman of Donga local government area, Nashuka Musa Donga.

In his condolence message to the Taraba state government and the family of the deceased monarch, President Buhari described the late 81-year-old traditional ruler and retired policeman as a person devoted to the improvement of the welfare of people in his domain

The president lamented that Nigeria has also “lost an advocate of peace.” In a statement by Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesperson, Buhari said the Gara Donga, as a businessman, founding member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and one of the respected leaders in old Gongola state before he went home following the creation of Taraba, was “committed not only to the peace, unity and development of his domain and State, but also the entire country.”

He enjoined the family of the traditional ruler, his friends, associates and the people of Taraba state to take solace in the knowledge that the monarch lived an exemplary life which deserves to be emulated.

The president prayed that God should comfort all those who mourn the departed and grant his soul rest.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
