Gov Ishaku Reaffirms Commitment To Peaceful Poll


Taraba State governor, Arc Darius Ishaku has said his administration is totally committed to ensuring peaceful, free, fair and credible elections in the state.

Ishaku, who stated this yesterday in Jalingo when the management of LEADERSHIP Newspaper visited him to present a letter of an award as LEADERSHIP Governor of the year, said he accords top most priority to security since he assumed office.

He said, “Since my assumption of office as governor of the state if there is anything my administration does not play with, it is security. “But to be factual with you, our security agencies in this country are not living up the expectations.

“The Police needs to be armed and well trained to enable them do their job as required,” he said. He further explained that since his assumption of office, Taraba State that was known to be backward in terms of education is now ranked first in the North-east.

“When I took over the mantle of leadership in the state, I recall that during our presidential retreat on the North-east Economic Development in Gombe State, Taraba State was mentioned as very backward in terms of education and other things. “And while touring the state during 2015 campaign, I discovered that Taraba State was truly backward.

“Most of the schools were dilapidated and there were no teachers. But after a while, I sat up and did a cleaning exercise that brought the standard of education to what it is now,” he noted.

The governor added that his reforms in education has improved the entire education value chain of in the state.
He highlighted that his administration revived alot of  campanies that were left moribund for a long time.

He further explained that the recent creation of additional chiefdoms in the state was done to give each tribe a sense of belonging.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
