Mambilla hydro power: FEC approves N812m for land demarcation

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N812m for demarcation of the specific area of land to be affected by the Mambilla Hydro Power Project.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola disclosed this at the end of the weekly FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.

Fashola said the land demarcation would lead to the enumeration, resettlement, compensation and construction of the Project.

The minister, who said nine land surveying companies that will demarcate specific area of land to be affected by the actual construction of the project, have been engaged.

“Yes, Mambilla is a power project but it is also a critical economic intervention project for growth, employment and for competitiveness of the national economy. People see power, we see an economic enabler and this is the first leg,” he said.

He said a new maintenance policy that will drive maintenance culture in the country was also approved.

Tagged, “ National Public building maintenance frameworks”, Fashola, said it was a precursor to the development of a “maintenance economy” to provide jobs for the unemployed across the country

“We are working towards developing a framework for maintenance of other government assets including roads, bridges and oil assets, across the country.

“We have never developed this type of maintenance economy which we are creating today. With what we have done now, we have started with a National pilot plan for inventory of our national assets and a maintenance procurement manual which will be made available to all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, nationwide,” he said.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
