Police investigate attack on Taraba APC gov’ship candidate


The Taraba Police Commissioner, David Akinremi, said yesterday that the command is investigating last week’s attack on the APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Sani Danladi Abubakar and his campaign team in Wukari.
He announced this through the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Tafida, who represented him at the signing of peace accord by the APC gubernatorial candidate at the command headquarters in Jalingo. The police commissioner described the attack as unfortunate and assured that the command will provide adequate security during and after the elections in the state.

Sani Danladi stated further that before he embarked on the campaign tour, he had written and obtained approval from the police commissioner.
He said the attack on his campaign team was an attempt to assassinate him, adding that he was against all forms of thuggery.
Meanwhile, the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr. Aaron Artimas, told the Daily Trust in an interview that many vehicles were burnt and items looted by the assailants.
He said the attack on the APC gubernatorial candidate and his convoy was well planned and coordinated by the state government “and now the same government is shamelessly accusing APC of carrying out the attack.”
But Mr. Bala Dan Abu, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity, had repeatedly denied involvement of the state government in the attack.
