Adamawa/Taraba Customs Command generates N168.29m in 2018

Mr Kamarudden Olumoh, Comptroller, Adamawa and Taraba Customs Area Command, in Yola on Friday, said the command generated N168.29 million from January to December, 2018.

Olumoh, who made the disclosure at a news conference, said, ‘‘The Command generated N168.29 million from January to December 2018 as against 168.11 million naira generated in 2017.’’

He noted that the amount fell short of the revenue target of N197.30 million for the year under review, stressing that the shortfall was about N29 million which represented 14.7 per cent of the given target.

The comptroller identified insurgency, communal clashes in Adamawa and Taraba, and sectarian situation in the Cameroon Republic, among challenges being faced by officers and men of the command.

He said in the year under review the command equally made 61 seizures.

He said the seizures comprised thousands of bags of foreign rice, second hand clothes and thousands of litres of petroleum products, all with a duty paid value of N59.78 million.

‘‘Three suspects are been tried in relation to the smuggling offence,” Olumoh added.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
