BENUE GOVT. DENIES SPONSORING ATTACKS ON TARABA COMMUNITIES


The Benue State Government has denied allegations credited to the caretaker chairman of Wukari Local Government Area in Taraba State, Daniel Adi, that it may be sponsoring attacks on communities in the state.
This was contained in a statement by the Adviser to the Governor on Media and ICT, Tahav Agezua.
 He stated categorically that the Benue State Government has never, and will not sponsor attacks on any community.

He said all the  Benue State Government does is to collaborate with security agencies and other stakeholders within the state and with its neighbours to find a peaceful resolution of crises through dialogue.
He said this has been the strategy deployed to solve the crises between border communities of Benue and Taraba States as well as neighbouring Ebonyi in recent time.
Agezua said the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, his deputy, Benson Abounu, have led the state security council, traditional rulers, and prominent indigenes from the state to hold several meetings with their counterparts in the neighbouring states aimed at addressing security challenges.
He explained that last Friday, when Governor Ortom received reports of attacks on Rafinkada and Kente in Wukari Local Government, he promptly directed investigation to find out whether the attackers came from neighbouring Ukum Local Government in Benue State, adding that Governor Ortom  publicly gave Ukum Chairman and second class traditional ruler a three-day ultimatum to identify and report the attackers to security agents for arrest if it was confirmed that they came from their area.
He expressed concern that rather than commend Governor Ortom on this directive, it is surprising for the Wukari Chairman to accuse the Benue State Government of sponsoring the attacks.
He also observed from the comments attributed to the Chairman of Wukari Local Government that he considers all Tiv people as indigenes of Benue State contrary to the historical fact that many of them are indigenes of Taraba State.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers.
