JUKUN/TIV CRISIS: 3 people killed in Wukari

The chairman of Wukari Local Government Council in Taraba State, Adigrace Daniel, yesterday said two farmers were shot dead on their farms; while another person was also gunned down along Rafin kada-Wukari road Sunday. He alleged that Tiv militia were behind the killings.

He gave the names of those killed as Alhaji Baba Ibrahim, ward head of Karofi in Wukari town; Luka Gamani and Dunya Danlami. Daniel said the matter was reported to the army and the police, adding that no arrest was made.

Reacting to the allegation, the spokesperson of the Tiv community in the state, David Oche, said it was wrong for Jukuns to always accuse the Tiv of any crime committed in Wukari area. He said criminals usually take advantage of a crisis situation.

Oche said proper investigation should be carried out to identify those responsible for the attacks rather than accuse the Tiv who were “always victims of attacks in the area”.

The spokesman of the state police command, David Misal, said the command was not aware of the latest killings in Wukari.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
