Insecurity: Red Cross trains 50 volunteers in Taraba

Following recent reports of attacks and killings in Taraba State, the Red Cross, in continuation of its intervention, has trained at least 50 volunteers to respond to cases of emergency before evacuation of victims to the hospitals.

The organisation’s Head of Media in Taraba, Mrs Faith Ilo, in a press statement issued in Jalingo on Sunday said the aim of the training was to give first aid skills to volunteers as a means of saving lives before final evacuation to the hospital.

She explained that 50 volunteers were trained in Manya community in Takum and Suntai community in Bali local government areas of the state.

“The aim of the training is to equip and build local capacities most especially among young people with requisite skills and first aid kits as well as use of available local resources within the community to respond to emergency situations.

“The training is necessary because in case of an emergency situation where one is bleeding, such a person needs immediate care to prevent avoidable death.

“In most cases, these emergencies happened in the rural areas where immediate access to the hospital is a challenge, so the training will help the volunteers to save lives in such situations.”

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
