Taraba Govt. to Complete 7Billion Naira Water Project










Governor Darius Ishaku has assured Tarabans of his determination to complete the Seven Billion Naira Jailingo Primary Water Source Project.
He made the declaration during the launching of the State Water Sanitation and Hygiene WASH policy at the Gymnasium Hall of the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo.

Ishaku stated that his administration had spent time and resources in ensuring that people of the State have access to potable water in both urban and rural areas.

The Governor charged the Water Supply Agency and its partners to adopt best water management practices towards the sustenance of water supply and hygiene in the State.
He enumerated his achievements in the water sector to include employment of fifty professionals, computerisation, metering and introduction of automated water machines and the construction of over three hundred boreholes.
He acknowledged the contributions of African Development Bank, Japanese Agency, UNICEF, USAID World Bank and other partners in the development of water.
Earlier, the Chairman, Integrated State Steering Committee on Water Sanitation and Hygiene who is also the Secretary to the State Government, Anthony Jellason said Taraba State was able to witness tremendous development in the water sector owing to the pragmatic and focused leadership of Governor Darius Ishaku.
Commenting, Commissioner for Water Resources, Emmanuel Gowon Hallan emphasized the importance of water saying plans must be underground to tackle scarcity in some years to come in view of population explosion and increased consumption.
He remarked that globally, focus is now on water hygiene and sanitation which shows that the State is on track.
The Program featured a documentary on the development recorded in the water sector in Taraba State, goodwill messages from partners, presentation of Integrated Steering Committee, launching and presentation of the revised WASH policy to the public.
Governor Ishaku later commissioned new ATM water dispensers at Nukkai and inspected the Karofi water project.
In a related development, Governor Ishaku has placed a ban on the use of polythene bags in the State saying appropriate legislation would be made by Members of the State House of Assembly. He called on the Ministry of Water, Integrated State Steering Committee on WASH and partners to give necessary advise.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
