COVID-19 LOCKDOWN: Takum Caretaker Chairman Tightens Border with Cameroon







Against the backdrop of the decision taken by Taraba state Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku to safeguard the state and nip possibilities of community infections of Covid-19 pandemic in the bud through imposition of total lockdown in the state, he charged the Council Chairmen of Takum, Ussa, Kurmi and Sardauna to tighten their border communities with Cameroon as captured thus in the press release;
“Security operatives have been ordered to mount surveillance checkpoints in Ibi, Wukari, Mayo-lope, Zing, and Takum-Katsina/Ala entry points. That the security operatives should work with Chairmen of Takum, Ussa, Kurmi and Sardauna Local Government Councils to seal off entry points along the Cameroon border”.
Sequel to the above order by Governor Ishaku, the Chairman of Takum local government council, Hon. Shiban Tikari swung to action to find ways to checkmating the influx of Cameroonians as well as ensuring residents of the border communities are properly sensitised on the scourge of Covid-19.
According to our reporter, yesterday, Hon. Shiban alongside security chiefs, PMO Takum specialist hospital and a team of medical personnel drawn from 93 Battalion Barracks embarked on lockdown assessment round the entry points of the town, not only to ensure enforcement but provide sensitization campaign to residents.






Speaking, Hon. Shiban said the most dangerous entry points amongst the border communities with Cameroon are Jatou-Akongo, Alan, Manga, Shibong, Liji and Lutu Nigeria and Lutu Cameroon where there are reports of influx due to border porosity.
Our reporter revealed that residents of the above mentioned villages were sensitized by Hon. Shiban and his team of medical personnel as security operatives were staged in strategic entry points to checkmate further infiltration.
Accordingly, same precautionary measures to tighten Taraba boundaries with Benue state were taken as well as provision of needed sensitization campaign, starting from River Ron through Kashimbila, Jatou-Aka, Dogongawa, Kasuwan Haske through Vongiri and Chanchanji respectively.

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
