Our lives are under threat, Zoro’s family cries out

The family of Usman Bawa Zoro in Taraba State has raised the alarm over threats to their lives following an alleged unprofessional handling of kidnapping case by the police authority.

While calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to, as a matter of urgency, wade into the matter by offering them protection, the family said the suspected kidnapper is going about threatening them. They also urged the Human Rights Commission to intervene by calling to order persons indicted.

In a petition written by the family to the IGP and the commission, copy of which was made available to The Guardian, the family expressed sadness that a case of suspected kidnappers’ kingpin which was brought before the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Donga council and later transferred to the command headquarters in Jalingo, was not professionally handled.

The petition which was signed on behalf of the family by Buhari Usman, alleged that a member of the family, Hayatu Usman was kidnapped last December and was subsequently released after paying a ransom of N1.5 million.

The family said the suspect who was arrested, has since regained his freedom and going round bragging that he has the backing of the police and the court.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), David Misal, denied knowledge of the allegation saying: ”I don’t know what you are talking about.”

Taraba State University Joins ASUU Ultimatum to 21 Universities Over 2025 Agreement

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
