Strike: NANS urges Taraba Govt to address lecturers grievances

National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Taraba State University, TSU chapter, has appealed to Governor Darius Ishaku, to end the ongoing strike by the institution’s lecturers to avoid prolonging students’ stay in school without graduation.

Arc.-Darius-Ishaku Recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, TSU chapter last Wednesday resumed its earlier shelved industrial strike over issues of funding among others. The union in 2018 suspended the industrial action following assurances that the state government would meet its demands.

President of NANS, TSU chapter, Ande Boyi, while reacting to the strike, noted that prompt action was needed from the state government to save the situation. According to him, “students are not supposed to stay at home when their colleagues in other institutions are continuing with their studies.”

He urged the state government to as a matter of urgency “meet the demands of ASUU to ensure that students don’t stay at home for long.”

Taraba Begins ₦5,000 Deduction for Teachers’ Permanent Identity Cards

The Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB) has initiated a ₦5,000 deduction from teachers as part of arrangements for the production of Permanent Identity Cards for teachers across the state. According to UBEC, the identity cards are expected to strengthen staff records, improve security and enhance administrative efficiency in the management of teachers across Taraba State. UBEC further said the Permanent Identity Card project is also expected to assist the state government in developing an accurate and verifiable database of teachers. Such a database will provide Governor Agbu Kefas with reliable information on personnel within the basic education system and support more effective planning, monitoring and personnel management. The initiative is therefore expected to strengthen security measures, improve staff verification and provide a more efficient system for managing personnel across Taraba State’s basic education sector.
